Science + Technology + Engineering + Arts + Math = STEAM
Presented by Strang, Inc. and Urban League of Greater Madison, STEAM Camp raises awareness for educational pathways toward careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math. Middle school campers learn how to prepare for their future careers through interactive learning workshops with community organizations and local businesses. STEAM Camp is all-day and in-person. Read on to learn more about STEAM Camp!
Community Support
Eight years ago, Strang’s STEAM Camp was established to kindle curiosity, instill confidence, and encourage career exploration among area middle school youth. With the thoughtful support, indeed encouragement of regional public/private organizations, we have created a most special experience. Here, all are welcome, and minds are opened to unlimited future possibilities.
Yes, we believe STEAM Camp is special, but don’t simply take our word for it. Now City Hall thinks STEAM Camp is pretty special, too. Please read the proclamations below. We’re proud to share this news with you. STEAM Camp is only possible because you care for our kids.
Congratulations and THANK YOU!
Why STEAM Camp?
STEAM Camp is where our focus on the future meets our desire to support underserved youth. These two guideposts are the big idea behind STEAM Camp. After all, what should be more focused on than the future of our area’s kids?
In this hands-on format, campers will learn which educational decisions should be made now to prepare for future careers in STEAM. Campers will get a hands-on opportunity to learn about the educational decisions that will help prepare them for these careers. We also focus on how these careers often require similar, overlapping skills. This program is a connected educational approach designed to share a well-rounded experience. Campers will discover together how to explore these exciting careers.
Questions about STEAM Camp?
What to Expect
This truly unique program is an amazing collaboration between private industry, higher education, non-profit organizations, and countless volunteers. One thing brings us all together – we all care about our community’s youth. For five days during the summer, campers board a school bus and visit university laboratories, public associations, private companies, and non-profit organizations for a wide variety of programs. Each day begins with informal presentations which introduce campers to the people who work within STEAM disciplines. Our goal is to provide a safe, fun, and interactive environment where campers will learn new skills and begin to discover educational pathways towards STEAM careers. Creativity, resourcefulness, and imagination are cornerstones to our program! The program is provided at no cost to the campers, with support and funding coming from throughout the community.

In total, over 200 children have attended our STEAM Camp during the first four years of the program. Most campers come from our community partners: the Urban League of Greater Madison, Milwaukee School of Engineering, Girl Scouts of Wisconsin Badgerland, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Dane County, and the Ho-Chunk Nation.
Thank you STEAM Camp partners!
