In June, the Ho-Chunk Gaming Madison project received unanimous approval of the Planned Development-General Development Plan (PD-GDP)! The Plan Commission Approval was the most important hurdle in the regulatory process for this project.
Back in February 2019, Ho-Chunk Gaming Madison announced its plan for a major expansion to their Madison casino. The Strang-designed plan includes a 145,000 SF expansion to the casino floor, a 150 to 250 room hotel, a 115,000 SF conference center that will also double as an entertainment center, as well as a heritage center that will showcase the Ho-Chunk Nation’s history in the four lakes region.

The design takes traditional motifs and metaphors, and interprets them abstractly to appeal to and reach a whole new generation of gamers. The outcome is a decidedly modern, forward-looking design vision that celebrates the Ho-Chunk culture and tradition of gracious hospitality.

Also important to the Ho-Chunk Nation was that the design is aligned with the goal of connecting, honoring and restoring the land. The wetlands surrounding the site will be carefully restored, and the site will feature walking paths through prairie and oak savanna will allow visitors to unlock and enjoy the beauty of the landscape.

Strang began working on the Ho-Chunk Gaming Madison project more than two years ago and are excited to move forward in the regulatory process. The project will now go before the Madison Common Council, and then to the Register of Deeds for recording of the PD-GDP.
